Our terms and conditions regarding course bookings and cancellations have been revised this year, please ensure you destroy any copies of older forms that you may still have and use the revised form available here. The full terms and conditions are on the individual and block booking forms.  

As there are no charges for members to attend our courses we have had to implement a strict cancellation charge system:  for non attendance on the day or a cancellation two weeks or less prior to the course date there will be a charge of £80 per person, unless another staff member from your organisation can attend instead.

Please check the booking instructions under each course heading - each course has a trainer's name and contact details beside it. These trainers are administering the courses that they are running, and booking forms and enquiries about specific courses should be sent directly to the relevant trainer. Any forms sent to the DCT office may be delayed.

Course Overview:
This is the only first aid course approved by the Health and Safety Executive and is recommended for all organizations whose risk assessments determine that First Aiders are required. This 4-day course offers a basic curriculum in a range of first aid competencies needed in any workplace giving our learners the ability to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty.

Course Outline:
By the end of the course the delegates will have the ability to:
Act safely, promptly and effectively when an emergency occurs at work
: Carry out cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) promptly and effectively
: Care for a unconscious casualty and place in the recovery position
: Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding
: Administer first aid to a casualty who has been:
: Burned or scalded
: Is suffering from an injury to bones, muscles or joints
: Is suffering from shock
: Has an eye injury
: May be poisoned
: Has been overcome by gas or fumes
: Transport a casualty safely as required by the circumstances of the workplace
: Recognize common major and minor illnesses/conditions and take appropriate actions as required
: Maintain simple factual records and provide written information if required
: Delegates will also be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the principles of first aid at work, in particular of:
: The importance of personal hygiene in first aid procedures
: The legal framework for first aid provision at work

Workshop level: This course is aimed at staff that come into contact with patients / service users and members of the public, as part of their normal working activity.

The Conflict Resolution training is designed to assist frontline staff to deal effectively with incidents of potential violence or aggression. This foundation training will enable staff to recognise the warning signs of a potentially violent situation and take steps to prevent it from escalating.  It will enable staff to recognise different aspects of conflict that they may encounter and to be able to understand and be aware of the different methods of resolving such conflicts.  

The course will consist of a National Syllabus for the NHS in non-physical intervention techniques on managing and de-escalating potentially violent incidents within the work environment.

The Breakaway Skills training is designed to teach a set of physical skills, which will enable a person to escape from a wide variety of possible assaults against them.

The techniques are taught within a legal & ethical framework relevant to those working in the healthcare profession.

The techniques taught involve the minimum possible use of force, and which are designed to promote the safety of both the client / patient and member of staff.

The types of attacks considered will include: Wrist grabs, Hair Grabs,Neck Grabs, Clothing grabs, Bear hugs

Delegates are advised to wear loose fitting clothing. This is for the afternoon session.
